I didn’t cite anything for the term “Tobikomi Jisatsu” (飛び込み自殺), “Suicide by Train.” But there are two references I had for the topic of suicide by train:
Freedman, Alisa. "Tokyo in Transit: Japanese Culture on the Rails and Road." 2011.
Fisch, Michael. "Tokyo's Commuter Train Suicides and the Society of Emergence." 2013.
The latter of which talks about that while “Tobikomi Jisatsu” was used to describe these incidents in newspapers, in the early 1990s, the term “jinshin jiko”(人身事故) started to replace the prior term. The term means “bodily accident” which obfuscates the severity of the act of suicide.
